SPRING

SPRING

Twas the first day of Spring,
and Winter returned
with a vengeance.
Ice winds whipping,
cracked teeth chattering,
chilled to the bone …
she was not
surrendering to the sun
without one
last
hurrah!

FROZEN WHITE

Note:  I have a Facebook friend, Dara Hurt (http://www.redbubble.com/people/dar1212 ) who does beautiful photography.  I wrote this for a photo she called BREAKWATER.

FROZEN WHITE

Snow fall
fist-sized flakes
boards freeze
rocks disappear
under a blanket
of frozen white

Pond edge
fitful freeze
falling flakes
hide the distant side
under a cover
of frozen white

Silent waves
frozen time
hardened peaks
crested ice coat
creating a tapestry
of frozen white

Snow fall
flittering flakes
breaths freeze
paths disappear
delve into the mystery
of frozen white

ODE TO BLUE BELL

So, I am sure it is not a true ODE, but it works for me …

ODE TO BLUE BELL

Peppermint ice cream
a bit of whipped cream
peppermint ice cream
a cold winter’s dream

Peppermint ice cream
bits of red, bits of green
scattered in pink
a cold winter’s dream

You may be seasonal
just once in a while
you may be seasonal
but with you I smile

Cool on my tongue
cold on my lips
frosty the breath
from peppermint chips

Peppermint ice cream
for you and for me
peppermint ice cream
MY cold winter’s dream!
